<para>
False natural color pan-sharpened 4-band IKONOS satellite imagery for Baltimore City acquired on 02 Oct 2001. In this false natural color image the NIR, red, and green bands were used to create an image that approximates natural color yet is more asthetically appealing. Display R-G-B as 1-2-3. The advantage is that vegetation appears more green, but developed features may have a hint of purple. The composite pan-sharpened image was created by merging adjacent IKONOS multispectral (4m) and panchromatic (1m), color balancing them, then running a pan-sharpending algorithem specifically designed for 11-bit IKONOS imagery. Following pan-sharpening a natural color algorithm was run to create the 3-band false natural color image. Refer to the enclosed documentation for the Space Imaging metadata.

<geographicDescription>The Baltimore Ecosystem Study ultimately will conduct research and educational activities throughout the Baltimore metropolitan area. This large area includes Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and the counties of Ann Arundel, Carrol, Harford, Howard, and Montgomery. Gwynns Falls includes agricultural lands, recently suburbanized areas, established suburbs, and dense urban areas having residential, commercial and open spaces. In addition, a reference area has been established in a forested catchment of the Gunpowder drainage in Oregon Ridge County Park. </geographicDescription>
