Abstract: In partnership with the USDA Forest Service and UMBC, Baltimore Green Space has been working in partnership with community forest stewards and research scientists to better understand and highlight the ecological value of urban forests. The work of forest stewards assisted by experts has resulted in improved forest health and increased human use. The research side of the work began with field surveys of 88 forest patches in different regions of the city and continued with in depth research on 22 forest patches. We will highlight what we are learning from both the social aspects of the work and the study of the forest ecosystem.
