Abstract: Humane Metropolis Baltimore was a public workshop held on June 11, 2009 that was organized by the Ecological Cities Project in Northampton, MA and sponsored by the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy in collaboration with the Parks & People Foundation. As with previous HM conferences held in New York, Pittsburgh, and Riverside, CA, the workshop organization followed the general framework of the book: "The Humane Metropolis: People and Nature in the 21st Century City" (R. Platt, ed., UMass Press and Lincoln Institute of Land Policy. In general, the concept of Humane Metropolis (HM) refers to urban places at various scales (metro to neighborhood, including both cities and suburbs) that seek to become more "green, healthy, safe, efficient, equitable, and people-oriented. The presentation will summarize some HM themes, as discussed at HM Baltimore and elsewhere.
