LTER Network Planning Grant: Status and Activities
Co-Authors: Cadenasso, M.L.
Abstract: The National Science Foundationís Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) network has embarked on a multiyear effort to develop a vision and plan for cross site syntheses. Traditionally the LTER network functioned as a group of sites all focused on investigating the same five core research areas in systems at their sites. The success of the LTER program has, in large part, been due to this rigorous site based research. Large network environmental science initiatives are growing, however, and the LTER network needs to maintain its identity and leadership within this changing landscape. The LTER network, through a committee consisting of representatives from each LTER site and other long- term research programs, has been developing a Planning Grant. The goals of the Planning grant are to develop a platform for multi-site syntheses and to integrate the social sciences into the research efforts of the sites. This talk will update the BES community on the LTER Planning Grant process and activities.
