Tree Treasures: Developing an Educational Activity Series for Both In-Class & Independent Use
Shannon Galbraith and Frank Rodgers
BES had an opportunity to infuse science concepts and inquiry-based methods into a Parks and People Foundation community forestry project. PPF’s goal was to produce a series of nine tree–related activities, some based on existing activities and others to be developed through the course of the project. Several activities were piloted in Summer 2003 with children participating in PPF’s SuperKids Camp and KidsGrow summer program. Topics, challenges of integrating science concepts and inquiry into free standing materials, and lessons learned will be discussed.
